Best chatbot builders

Intercom Fin, Botpress, HubSpot Chatbot Builder, Landbot, Tidio Lyro, Manychat, Typebot, Voiceflow and Chatfuel ranked on one published rubric: pricing clarity, free access, builder depth, channel reach and handoff, and data and trust.

By the chatbots.reviews teamPublished September 18, 2026Updated September 18, 2026Prices verified September 18, 2026

These nine tools are different kinds of product. Intercom Fin and Tidio Lyro are AI agents for support, Landbot and Typebot are flow builders, Manychat and Chatfuel are bots for social DMs, HubSpot's builder comes with a CRM, and Botpress and Voiceflow are agent platforms.

The rubric puts them on one scale by scoring what a buyer can check before paying: a predictable bill, a free start, builder depth, channels and handoff, and data documentation. It does not score answer quality. If you know the job, start from a segment list such as customer support, ecommerce or WhatsApp.

Quick picks

  • Highest score: Intercom Fin — AI agent, inbox and ticketing in one product, with the billing unit defined in writing.
  • For developers: Botpress — Visual Studio, SDK and APIs, plus a free plan to start building.
  • For a small website: Tidio Lyro — A free plan with live chat, a flows bot and 10 seats.
  • For Instagram DMs: Manychat — Comment-to-DM flows and a public price list from $17 a month.

Fin is an AI agent that answers customer-service questions from your own help content, sold inside the Intercom helpdesk (which also holds the visual Workflows bot builder) or on top of another helpdesk such as Salesforce or HubSpot. It is built for funded support teams: you pay per helpdesk seat, plus $0.99 for each conversation that ends in a billable outcome. The vendor renamed itself from Intercom to Fin on May 12, 2026, and has been part of Salesforce since September 10, 2026.

It tops the rubric with top marks for pricing clarity and reach: every outcome costs $0.99, and its channels run from web chat to voice.

The catch: The visual Workflows builder is not in the entry plan: the Workflows FAQ says you must be on Advanced, at $99 per seat a month, or higher.

Botpress

Support teams with a developer on hand that want agent building and a helpdesk in one tool8.0
Paid plans from
$150 per month

Free plan
Yes
Channels
Website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, SMS, Email, Slack, Voice

Botpress is a cloud platform for building AI agents: a visual Studio, LLM-driven steps the docs call Autonomous Nodes, a code SDK and, since May 2026, its own helpdesk called Desk. It is built for support teams that have someone technical on hand. Workspaces created after May 14, 2026 pay a flat plan fee for a monthly conversation allowance, and extra conversations are bought automatically in packs of 100.

It scores four out of five on every criterion, the most even profile on the list, and adds its own helpdesk to the agent builder.

The catch: On paid plans you cannot switch off overage: at 95% of your allowance Botpress buys a pack of 100 conversations for you, and that pack stays on the bill every month until you remove it.

HubSpot Chatbot Builder

Teams already running sales or support in HubSpot that want a bot writing straight into their CRM7.7
Paid plans from
$20 per seat per month
Pricing model
Free tool, paid seats
Free plan
Yes
Channels
Website widget, Messenger, WhatsApp, Email

HubSpot's chatbot builder is a visual, rule-based bot tool (HubSpot calls the bots chatflows) that comes free with HubSpot's CRM, with the Breeze Customer Agent as a separate AI option. It is built for teams that already keep contacts, tickets and meetings in HubSpot. The builder itself costs nothing; you pay for seats to remove branding and unlock branching, and for HubSpot credits each time the AI agent resolves a conversation.

It ranks high because the builder is free for 2 users and the AI agent's price is published at $0.50 per resolution, though branching logic needs Professional seats.

The catch: Free and Starter accounts cannot add if/then branches to a bot, so the first tier with real conversation logic is Professional at $100 per seat per month plus a required one-time $1,500 onboarding fee.

Landbot

Marketing teams in Europe that want lead-capture flows on a website, with prices in euros and data hosted in the EU7.5
Paid plans from
€40 per month
Pricing model
Plan plus usage meter
Free plan
Yes
Channels
Website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger

Landbot is a visual, no-code chatbot builder from Barcelona for websites, WhatsApp and Messenger. It is built mainly for marketing teams that want to capture and qualify leads with button-driven flows, with an optional AI Agent block inside the flow. It charges a flat monthly plan that includes a pool of chats and a smaller, separate pool of AI chats, and it bills a published price for each chat beyond the pool.

It gets top marks for access: a free plan that never expires with 100 chats a month, and a published price for every extra chat.

The catch: Branding removal, webhooks, CRM integrations and WhatsApp on your own number all start at Professional, so the €40 Starter plan is narrower than its price suggests.

5

Tidio Lyro

Small online shops and support teams that want an AI agent, simple automations and a shared inbox from one vendor, with published self-serve prices7.5
Paid plans from
$29 per month
Pricing model
Mixed
Free plan
Yes
Channels
Website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Email

Tidio is a live-chat and help-desk suite for small and mid-sized online businesses, with two kinds of bot: Flows, a no-code rule-based builder, and Lyro, an AI agent that answers from your own support content. It is built mainly for e-commerce and support teams that want the bot and the human inbox in one tool. It charges flat monthly fees on three separate meters: human-answered conversations, Lyro AI conversations and unique visitors reached by Flows.

It gets top marks for access, with a free plan that runs a live flows bot, and it covers website, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and email from one inbox.

The catch: The $29 Starter plan buys human-answered conversations, not a working AI agent: its 50 Lyro conversations are a one-off allowance that never resets, and a renewing Lyro quota is a separate purchase starting at $39 a month.

6

Manychat

Creators and social-first shops that sell through Instagram, TikTok or Messenger DMs6.9
Paid plans from
$17 per month
Pricing model
By number of contacts
Free plan
Yes
Channels
Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, TikTok, SMS, Email

Manychat is a marketing bot: a visual flow builder that replies to comments and direct messages on Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram, with SMS and email as add-on channels. It is built for creators and social-first shops, not for website support, because it has no website chat widget. It charges a flat plan fee that includes a monthly allowance of Active Contacts, then a per-contact price above that allowance.

It gets top marks for pricing clarity with a full public price list, but scores low on reach because it has no chat widget for your own website.

The catch: A broadcast makes every recipient an Active Contact for that month, so one send to a large list can use up the whole allowance and start per-contact overage unless you set a cap.

7

Typebot

Developers and technical marketers who want cheap per-chat pricing or a self-hosted bot builder6.7
Paid plans from
$39 per month
Pricing model
Plan plus usage meter
Free plan
Yes
Channels
Website widget, WhatsApp

Typebot is a visual builder for chatbots and conversational forms that you can run on Typebot's cloud or host yourself. It is built for teams that want lead capture and scripted flows on a website, and that are comfortable adding their own AI provider key when they want AI. The cloud charges a flat monthly fee with a set number of chats included, starting at $39 a month; self-hosting is free under a source-available licence.

It gets top marks for access and is the only builder here with documented self-hosting, but reach is low: web and WhatsApp only, and no inbox.

The catch: On a paid cloud plan, reaching your chat limit does not pause the bot: after two warning emails Typebot moves your workspace to the next usage tier, so the bill goes up instead.

Voiceflow

Technical CX teams and agencies that want a voice and web-chat agent with model choice, staging environments and code6.6
Paid plans from
$60 per month
Pricing model
Credits
Free plan
Partly
Channels
Website widget, Voice, SMS

Voiceflow is a visual platform for building AI agents that answer customers by web chat, phone and SMS, with code, APIs and environments for developers. It is built for customer-experience teams and agencies with technical staff, not for a small business that wants a bot running in an afternoon. It charges a monthly plan fee that includes a pool of credits, and every user message, AI model call and phone minute uses credits.

It has the deepest builder on the list, the only five out of five, but scores low on pricing clarity because plan prices are not on its public pricing page.

The catch: Voiceflow's pricing page shows no plan prices, and a credit is not a conversation: every user message costs a credit before the AI model's own credit charge is added.

Chatfuel

Agencies and small sales teams that want an AI agent answering leads on WhatsApp and Instagram6.3
Paid plans from
$20 per month
Pricing model
Credits
Free plan
Partly
Channels
Website widget, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, TikTok

Chatfuel is an AI agent that answers and qualifies leads on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok and a website widget. In 2026 the vendor rebuilt it around a language model called Fuely AI and aimed it at small sales teams and marketing agencies. It charges a flat subscription plus a wallet of US-dollar credits that pays for every AI reply and for Meta's WhatsApp fees.

It covers WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok and web on every paid plan, but it does not publish the price of one AI reply, which costs it on pricing clarity.

The catch: Chatfuel does not publish what one AI reply costs, and when the wallet reaches zero the bot stops replying until you add money.

How to choose

If you run a support team and want the AI agent inside your helpdesk, pick Intercom Fin because it bills a defined outcome at $0.99 and includes the inbox and tickets. Smaller teams should read best for customer support.

If you need a bot on a small business website and have no budget yet, pick Tidio Lyro or Landbot because both run a live bot on a free plan. The free list spells out each limit.

If your customers message you on Instagram or Messenger, pick Manychat because it is built around comment-to-DM flows and publishes every plan price. See best for Instagram and Messenger.

If you have a developer and want an agent that calls your own systems, pick Botpress because it pairs a visual Studio with an SDK and APIs. If you must self-host, see the open-source and developer list.

If your contacts and deals already live in HubSpot, pick HubSpot's chatbot builder because it writes leads, tickets and meetings straight into the CRM at no extra cost.

Verdict

Intercom Fin is the default pick for a support team with a budget: it has the highest score and the most clearly defined billing unit on the list. Ignore it if you run a small site, sell mainly through social DMs or need a free plan. For those jobs, a segment list such as best for small business or best for lead generation ranks tools that fit better.

Chatbot finder

For buyers in the United States

No federal law is written for chatbots, but three rules do most of the work. Some states make you say the bot is a bot: California when a bot is used to sell, Maine for any chatbot in commerce, and Colorado for public-facing conversational AI from January 1, 2027. Marketing texts need prior express written consent under the TCPA. And what your bot tells a customer falls under the FTC Act and state consumer-protection law, the same as any other statement you make.

Vendors in this category publish prices in US dollars, a few in euros; this site shows the published currency and never converts. There is no US cookie-consent law for a chat widget, but California chat-wiretap suits make a short notice above the chat box worth adding. If you serve customers in the EU or UK, check that the vendor documents EU or UK data hosting and offers a data processing agreement. If your customers also write in Spanish, check that the vendor documents AI answers in that language rather than assuming it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best chatbot builder in 2026?

On our rubric, Intercom Fin scores highest, followed by Botpress and HubSpot's chatbot builder. The score rates public documentation: pricing clarity, free access, builder depth, reach and trust. It does not rate answer quality, so the best builder for you depends on the job the bot has to do.

How can a support AI agent and a marketing bot be ranked on one scale?

Our rubric scores what any buyer can check before paying, whatever the product type: a predictable bill, a way to start free, builder depth, channels and handoff, and data documentation. That makes the scores comparable, but not the products. To compare chatbot builders made for the same job, use a segment list such as best for ecommerce or best for lead generation.

Did you test these chatbot builders?

No. The scores come from each vendor's pricing pages, help centers, terms and trust pages, and every fact links to its source. A reference-bot test is designed but has not been run, so this site makes no claims about answer quality.

Which chatbot builders have a free plan?

Six of the nine chatbot builders we review have a permanent free plan: Tidio Lyro, Botpress, Landbot, HubSpot's chatbot builder, Manychat and Typebot. The limits differ widely and count different things, from chats to contacts. Our list of the best free chatbot builders gives each limit.
